Mayor Jim Millirons called the regular meeting of the Morrow City Council to order at 7:30 p.m.  The meeting took place in the Council Chambers of the Morrow Municipal Complex, 1500 Morrow Road, Morrow, GA, 30260.  Everyone stood for the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. Mayor Pro Tem Sorrow gave the invocation.

 

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:                        Work Session – September 25, 2007  

                                                                        Regular Meeting – September 25, 2007

                                                                       

                        Councilman Sorrow made a motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Councilman Slaton. The motion passed unanimously.

 

 

PUBLIC HEARING:

                    

Public Hearing for Ordinance 2007-11, to set the milage for the calendar year 2007, by establishing the gross milage for maintenance and operation at Ten (10) mils, less the rollback of Five (5) mils for Local Option Sales Tax, leaving a net milage for maintenance and operation purposes set at Five (5) mils.

 

                           First Reading: October 9, 2007, 7:30 PM

                           Second Reading: October 23, 2007, 11:00 AM

                           Third Reading: October 23, 2007, 7:30 PM

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

PRESENTATION:

                    

1.  Mayor Millirons and John Lampl presented Finance Officer Dan Defnall

  with Morrow’s 12th consecutive Achievement for Excellence in Financial

  Reporting.   

 

2.      Mayor Millirons and Captain Don Harry presented a 20 year service pin to Paul Bonner of the Fire Department.

 

3.      Mayor Millirons and John Lampl presented a 5 year service pin to Jeanell Bridges of Morrow Business and Tourism Association.

 

4.      Mayor Millirons and John Lampl presented a 5 year service pin to Rhonda Thayer of City Hall.

 

5.      Mayor Millirons and John Lampl presented a 5 year service pin to Sylvia Redic of City Hall.

 

 

OLD BUSINESS:

            No Old Business

 

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

1.      Request for the subdivision of property located at 1213 and 1225 Mt. Zion. The request was formally submitted by Mr. Bhagu Patel representing TJJ Investment Services.

 

Councilman Sorrow made a motion to accept the request, Councilman Slaton seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

 

2.      Approval from Mayor and Council authorizing a proposal from York Bridge Concepts, Inc. for the covered bridge at Olde Morrow.

 

Councilman Slaton made a motion to accept the proposal, Councilman Sorrow seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

 

3.      Approval from Mayor and Council authorizing a proposal from Georgia Development Partners, LLC for the road construction at Olde Morrow.

 

Councilman Sorrow made a motion to accept the proposal, Councilman Barfield seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

 

 

 

4.      Approval from the Mayor and Council for the contract price on the new ambulance for the Fire Department.

 

Councilman Sorrow made a motion to approve the contract, Councilman Slaton seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

 

5.      First reading of Ordinance 2007-11 establishing the 2007 calendar year gross milage for the City of Morrow.

 

6.  An announcement was made stating the Planning and Zoning Meeting for  

     October 16, 2007 has been cancelled due to no items on the agenda.

 

 

 

 

COMMENTS:

Councilman Huie and Chief Jeff Baker gave information regarding the Poker Run sponsored by Clayton County Harley Davidson to benefit Morrow Police Officer Lt. Hal White who has been diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia.
