PRESENTATION:
1. Sheriff Victor Hill presented a Plaque to Mayor Millirons giving him the title of Honorary Lt. Colonel.
Mayor Millirons introduced Sheriff Victor Hill who began by stating that one of the missions of the Sheriff’s Office is to clean up Clayton County. We want to restore Clayton County to a respectable community. The City of Morrow has been a great help in assisting to do this. At a time when I was unable to get funding from my own County Commissioners, a lot of people stepped forward. Chief Baker stepped forward and said he would like to be a part of it and helped to form a Vice Unit. City Manager John Lampl came forward and was able to approach the Council to get the funds needed to start the unit. Without their help, we could not have proceeded. I would like to thank every Councilman here for their vote of approval. With this unit, a lot of great things have happened. We have shut down 14 prostitution houses, pulled the business licenses of pornography houses, and shut down illegal gambling houses inside and outside the City of Morrow. The thing that’s so impressive about this is the attitude of the City of Morrow and the Mayor and Council. You could have said, we are going to clean up Morrow and not worry about anyone else but instead, you understood that if the County falls then the City falls too. I thank all of you gentlemen but I have a special thanks to your Mayor. The Mayor in his own way is a policeman and he’s as tough as a policeman so were going to make him one tonight. The mayor was then presented with a plaque making him Honorary Lt. Colonel in the Sheriffs Office.
2. The introductions of new officers have been scheduled for a later date.
3. Mayor Jim Millirons read a Proclamation honoring Tom LaPorte’s 10 years of service to the City of Morrow.
