Mayor Millirons called the regular meeting of the Morrow City Council to order at 7:30 p.m. The meeting took place in the Council Chambers of the Morrow Municipal Complex, 1500 Morrow Road, Morrow, GA 30260. Everyone stood for the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. Councilman Sorrow gave the invocation.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Work Session - July 12, 2005
Regular Meeting - July 12, 2005
PRESENTATION:
OLD BUSINESS:
Item 1: Second Reading of Ordinance 2005-06 establishing gross millage for 2005 for maintenance and operation at Nine (9) mils, less the rollback of Five (5) mils for Local Option Sales Tax, leaving a net millage for maintenance and operation purposes set at Four (4) mils.
Councilman Sorrow made the motion to approve Ordinance 2005-06, seconded by Councilman Slaton. The motion passed unanimously.
Item 2: Second Reading of Ordinance 2005-07 annexation of property, 1115 Mt. Zion, pursuant to Chapter 36 of Title 36 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated. The proposed zoning classification of the property upon annexation is General Business. The current Clayton County zoning is General Business.
Councilman Slaton made the motion to approve Ordinance 2005-07, seconded by Councilman Sorrow. Councilmen Sorrow, Slaton and LaPorte cast a “yes” vote, Councilman Huie abstained because he was absent from the July 12, 2005 meeting.
NEW BUSINESS:
Item 1: Approval of application for the annexation of 1241 Mt. Zion Rd.
Councilman Sorrow made the motion to approve the application, seconded by Councilman Slaton. The motion passed unanimously.
Item 2: Resolution 2005-11 authorizing an agreement between City of Morrow and Clayton County for monetary support of the Georgia Commuter Rail.
Councilman LaPorte made the motion to pass Resolution 2005-11, seconded by Councilman Huie. The motion passed unanimously.
COMMENTS:
City Manager: Commended the staff for doing a good job and explained that we are looking forward to a good future.
Councilman Huie: Congratulated the new Chief.
Mayor Millirons: Thanked Morrow’s Fire Department for their continuing service and leadership.
Mayor Millirons adjourned the meeting at 7:45 pm.
