Regular Council Meeting

Mayor Jim Millirons called the regular meeting of the Morrow City Council to order at 7:30 p.m.  The meeting took place in the Council Chambers of the Morrow Municipal Complex, 1500 Morrow Road, Morrow, GA, 30260.  Everyone stood for the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.  Councilman Sorrow gave the invocation.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:                        Work Session               - January 10, 2006      

Regular Meeting           - January 10, 2006

                                    Councilman Sorrow made a motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Councilman LaPorte. The motion passed unanimously.

PRESENTATION:    

Item 1.   Mayor Millirons and Captain Baker presented the 2005 “Citizen of the Year” award to Charles Slater and “Officer of the Year” award to Lt. Greg Tatroe. At this time, Charles Slater was also introduced as a new Morrow Police Officer. Mayor Millirons made the comment that he was very proud to have Officer Slater on the team.

Item 2. 

A. Captain Baker awarded Certificates of Appreciation to officers Hampson and Walker as the Police Department’s top two performing officers during the last GOHS Enforcement Campaign. Teams A and D were listed as the top two performing teams. Lt. Jones and Officer Meehan were presented with Certificates of Appreciation for their efforts as well.

B. Captain Baker introduced another new Officer, Lisa Presley.

Item 3. Captain Baker read a Certificate of Appreciation “Speeding: Reduction and Awareness” given to the Morrow Police Department by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, for their safety contributions and accomplishments in 2004 -2005.

OLD BUSINESS:

Item 1: Second Reading of Ordinance 2006-(01) amending Title 4. Public safety in the Morrow Code of Ordinances.           

                        Councilman Sorrow made a motion to adopt ORDINANCE 2006-(01), seconded by Mayor Pro Tem Huie.  The motion passed unanimously.

NEW BUSINESS:   No new business.

COMMENTS:

Citizens –

A Morrow citizen came forward to express their thanks for the beautiful Holiday wreaths and decorations put out for the Christmas season in the area of Old Rex Morrow Road and Huie Road.

City Manager –

City Manager Lampl having addressed the issue of patrol in the areas of Burbank and Beverly Hills neighborhoods commented that one arrest had been made in the area during the past week.

Mayor and Council –

Mayor Millirons gave thanks and appreciation to the Police Department for their recently enhanced performance.

Mayor Millirons adjourned the meeting at 7:45 pm.
