Tar & Turf 2009

 

A brief morning rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the athletes that turned out for the 8th Annual Tar & Turf, presented by the Morrow Police Department. This year’s event attracted the largest field of participants to date. The ever evolving course provided some challenges for the runners and continues to receive high marks for its diversity as well as scenery.

 

The 1 mile walk took place on the popular dirt trail that winds through the wooded and open areas of Milton Daniel Park. The 4 mile run Starting Line was located at Millirons Park on Morrow Road. After making their way through neighborhood streets, the pedestrian path system and then circling through Reynolds Nature Preserve, the runners reversed their route to the Finish Line at City Hall. In the Community Room, everyone was treated to waffles hot off the grill from Waffle House on Jonesboro Road and freshly prepared mango and banana smoothies from Smoothie King at the Bridges of Morrow.

 

Awards were presented and all event participants names were entered into a drawing for some terrific prizes such as a WI Sports System, Tom-Tom portable GPS, one hour Full Motion Flight Simulator Experience and an Atlanta Braves Memorabilia Package.

 

All proceeds will help support the Police Department’s Children’s Charities which include Safe Halloween and Santa’s Choice Christmas Party. Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to all of our race sponsors for their contributions to this worthy cause:
