Tar & Turf 2008

 

On Saturday morning, August 16th, 2008, runners took their marks for the start of the 7th annual Tar & Turf run for the Morrow Police Department Children’s Charities. Participants from Thomaston, Acworth, Woodstock and other areas experienced the popular course which now includes the completed first phase of Morrow’s Pedestrian Pathway System. We were pleased to have former City Councilman Tom Laporte participating as we presented the Pathway in this debut event. Mr. LaPorte was a part of the Council team that approved the Pathway System construction, so it seems appropriate that Tom won the Overall Master position of the 4 mile run with an impressive 29 minute time.

 

There was a nice turn out for the Race & Fun Walk that began at 8:00am. The weather was perfect for an enjoyable time. By the end of the event everyone was looking forward to returning next year.

Coach Mike Mead of Clayton State University: Coach Mead helped us plan the event, set the course for the race and brought some of his students to help guide the runners. We truly appreciate his help and commitment to the community.

 

Reynolds Nature Preserve: A big part of the race’s popularity is the trail through the pristine, natural setting. It is a treat to all of the runners. Thanks to John and Stephanie at Reynolds for welcoming the event into the park.  

 

Walmart in Morrow: We are grateful for their generous support. Walmart provided all the food for the “after race” festivities as well as prizes for the raffle. (The Top prize of a handheld Magellan GPS really impressed the crowd.)

 

Fuze Beverages: We appreciated and enjoyed for their contribution of bottled drinks. (They tastefully helped hydrate participants.)

 

VIPS & Reserve Officers: As always, wherever there was a need, they were there.

 

MBTA (Morrow Business & Tourism Association) Thanks for the bottled water and continuing support.
