Morrow Citizen Corps---Ambassadors for the City

The Morrow Citizen Corps volunteers have a new car. The car is a retired police cruiser that has been stripped of its old decals and blue lights. Grants from Wal-Mart paid for the application of new decals and yellow lights. The car will be used by both the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Volunteers In Police Service (VIPS). CERT and VIPS are part of the Citizen Corps, a program that is part of the Department of Homeland Security. CERT and VIPS members receive extensive training from the Morrow Fire and Police Departments. The CERT and VIPS members will use the Citizen Corps car to patrol neighborhoods and shopping centers, help with traffic control at major events and render aid in an emergency or disaster.

Citizens interested in becoming part of the Volunteers in Police Services should contact Detective Graham Denio at gdenio@cityofmorrow.com or 770-961-4006. Those interested must be able to pass an extensive criminal background investigation.
