The City of Morrow CERT program was developed because
of the need for a well-trained civilian emergency work
force that can assist conventional emergency services
during a disaster situation. The training program not
only provides for community self-sufficiency, but it
also enhances the effectiveness of existing emergency
services. The unique training the CERT team members
receive enables them to provide routine disaster
relief to citizens. In turn, fire, police, and rescue
personnel are able to turn their attention to more
severe and life-threatening situations.
Through this unique program, people from the
community, organizations, businesses, industry, and
city employee groups will become members of CERT.
Generous sponsors such as Cintas uniforms, Target, and
Wal-Mart, and many others demonstrate the community’s
united commitment toward ensuring the best disaster
preparedness possible for all citizens. The ability of
businesses and community groups to effectively recover
from the devastating effects of any disaster requires
the active participation, planning, and cooperation of
all levels of the population. The fundamental
responsibility of preparedness, however, rests with
every individual.
The benefits of this program are numerous. It has
increased our overall level of disaster readiness,
provided skills that people may use in day-to-day
emergencies, enhanced the bond between government and
community, increased community spirit, and improved
the quality of life for the people of our city.
